Golden Days and Golden Faith

Even though summer is coming to an end, there are still plenty of events going on in one of the most fascinating cities in Scandinavia, Copenhagen. September offers a sparkling cocktail of cultural events when the Golden Days Festival 2011 celebrates the role of Faith from past till present on 9-18 September.

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek also hosts events during the Golden Days Festival
This year, the Golden Days Festival takes its visitors on a journey exploring the role of faith from ancient Roman times until today’s trendy Copenhagen. The theme “Faith” narrates the story of how faith historically has affected our culture, and how faith is manifesting itself as a new cultural movement and a modern counterculture.

All great events need a memorable opening and that is exactly what the Golden Days Festival offers year after year. This time, the divine and diabolical opening night offers holy wine, rapture, and profound wisdom at the Art Association Gl. Strand, located near Højbro Plads Square in the
centre of Copenhagen. Take a tour of heaven and hell by visiting the different floors and feel the rapture through music, singing, dancing, mysticism and meditation. Let the preaching Reverend Shine Snake Oil Company broaden your horizon and listen to hymns and elegies performed by Hymns from Nineveh.

And this is just the beginning of a further 9 days of interesting and enjoyable events, as a great number of museums, universities, theatres, churches and castles in Copenhagen as well as other cities in Denmark, contribute to the festival. Whether you would like to listen to, see, taste, debate, walk, or dance your way through the Golden Days, you can simply take your pick from a varied festival programme.

Chaotic’ Gourmet Theatre
The people behind the former Madeleine’s Food Theatre, MartinussenDANIELSEN, invite visitors to a unique dining experience in three acts and seven images. The event, named Chaos – χάος, explores the daily Fall of Man and creates a performance driven by miracles and divine intervention in everyday life. This extraordinary gourmet event takes place in the evenings of 8-9 September at a location yet to be confirmed. Tickets (DKK 2,000) can be bought online.

Talking Heads
If you are in the mood for a good and qualified
debate, you simply cannot miss the Golden Days “Værdi-Battles” (Value-Battles). During a series of different battles, speakers invite visitors to join discussions about the many faces of faith covering topics of climate, media, music and the financial market. The Value-Battles run from 12-15 September and tickets (DKK 40) can be bought online.

Peace, please
Six hand-picked musicians from the Middle East Peace Orchestra mark the 10th year since “9/11” by putting together a performance focusing on a fervent musical experience and a heartfelt hope of world peace. The concert is held on 11 September at the Royal Danish Theatre near Kongens Nytorv Square in the centre of Copenhagen. Tickets (DKK 150) can be bought online.
