Stardust over Copenhagen & Denmark

July 2010

Its not all bad news these days. In fact, the first half of 2010 has been packed with positive stories from - and awards given to - the destination Copenhagen/Denmark as well as to the local fireballs within its hotel & restaurant industry.

It started out with the Danish, Michelin-starred restaurant Noma gaining the ultimate accolade: “The World’s Best Restaurant”, jumping from 3rd place in 2009 onto the winning podium in 2010 when the British Restaurant Magazine announced its annual top 50 restaurants in the world on April 26th.

Then came the latest published report from the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA), underlining Copenhagen and Denmark’s position as one of the world’s most appealing congress cities and countries: Copenhagen came in ranked the 6th most popular city and Denmark ranked the 18th most popular country in the world for staging international congresses.

And the good news didn’t stop there; The COP15 Summit organisers were awarded the IMEX’ “Green Meetings Gold Award” at the IMEX Show in Frankfurt in late May. In early June, 5-star hotel Hilton Copenhagen Airport was named "Best Business Hotel in Denmark" for the second consecutive year, at the annual Business Destinations Travel Awards 2010. To top it all off, Denmark was awarded “Best-Eco Destination – Europe” at the same awards ceremony.

Jonathan Cohen, Marketing Manager – Business Tourism at VisitDenmark, the official national tourism organisation of Denmark, comments:

“These many and credible attributes are of great value to our destination, our professional organisers and the local community. Naturally, we are delighted to see that destination Copenhagen and Denmark seems to be making a long-lasting impression on Business Travellers and the Business Tourism Industry worldwide, and it just goes to show that being committed to continuously developing the business tourism industry and its product portfolio and to create more, new and sustainable initiatives at all times is the way forward”.

Also in May 2010, three Danish hotels, all located in Copenhagen, made it into Expedia’s Insiders' Select list of the world's best hotels for quality and value. Among the 2.500 most popular hotels in the world are: Marriott Copenhagen (no. 1.077), Adina Apartment hotel (no. 1.115) and Clarion Collection Hotel Twentyseven (no. 2.425). It is Expedia's first global ranking of its kind to include customer reviews from around the world, and the list comprised the top-rated hotels chosen from Expedia's portfolio of 123,000 properties worldwide.
