In the first half of 2012, Denmark will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark has now announced the two major cities and venues used during the period in question: The
Hotel OPUS in
Horsens in conjunction with
Forum Horsens in Jutland and the
Bella Center in Copenhagen.
The venues chosen have vast experience in staging international meetings and conferences, and signals that not only the Danish capital, but also other attractive cities around Denmark are able to cope with prestigious and international events of such calibre.
Whereas Hotel Opus in Horsens is and located in the Central Region of Jutland and best known as a Scandinavian architect-designed hotel created by Kim Utzon Architects with ultramodern, 5-star conference facilities, the Bella Center (BC) is acknowledged for successfully staging the COP15 event in 2009 and for being Scandinavia's largest congress and conference centre. The BC is also a frontrunner when it comes to incorporating sustainability in large business events and owner of Scandinavia's largest designer conference hotel, the brand new
Bella Sky Comwell hotel.
It is the 7th time Denmark holds the EU Presidency since joining the European Community in 1973.

In connection with the EU Presidency, key private and public stakeholders affiliated with the Danish Meetings Industry are also uniting and creating an ambitious national sustainability project named
the
“Danish Sustainable Events Initiative” (DSEI).
As with COP15 in 2009, the ambition of DSEI is to ensure that Danish sustainability leadership in action will stay advanced, showcased and shared!
