There are two ways in which to enjoy Danish farm life. In both cases you stay at or on the farm in separate dwellings, and you are free to explore the grounds of the farm and to participate in whatever activities the farm offers.

The Farmhouse Holiday is provided mostly by active farms which have their own agricultural production. This allows you to participate in the various related activities according to your liking, such as colleting eggs, feeding or stroking the cattle, or bringing in the hay. Due to the fact that the farm has an active agricultural production, you cannot always expect the hosts to serve the meals of the day for lack of time. Whether the farm provides meals - breakfast, half board, full board or no meals at all - can be seen from the description of each individual farm. Irrespective of meals being served or not, you have your own dwellings, either in a separate house by the farm or a flat or room on the farm.

This kind of holiday comes in an organic version as well. The agricultural produce of the farm is organic and the meals served is based on organic produce - often provided by the farm itself.

The other kind is a self-catering arrangement whereby you rent either a separate cottage or flat on the farm, but do your own housekeeping, thus having the privilege of both privacy and getting acquainted with farm life. These are self catering country holiday, and this kind of accommodation is ideal if you want to use the farm as a basis when exploring the sights and attractions of the area. All cottages or flats have been inspected by either the local tourist office or the organisation and will include a living room, bedroom, kitchen, toilet and shower and have hot and cold water.

Several tourist offices and companies offer the farm-holiday and self-catering country holidays programme. They publish catalogues from which can be seen information such as what kind of animals are on the farm, what leisure facilities are available, etc.
